John Howard Johnson

John Howard Johnson, of Covington, passed away April 5, 2015, at the age of 73. After working for the State of Georgia as an accountant, Mr. Johnson started his own business providing tax preparation and financial services across Metropolitan Atlanta for 17 years until his retirement. He was a private pilot and enjoyed fishing, playing golf and watching NASCAR. An upstanding citizen in the community, he was a member of the Gideons in Newton County, serving as treasurer for many years, and was a charter member of East Newton Baptist Church. In addition, he proudly served his country in the US Air Force. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Ann Benzel; and his parents, Solomon Johnson and Sadie Graham.

Survivors include his wife of 5 years, Kathy Ellsworth Johnson; son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Marianne Johnson; and granddaughters, Victoria and Isabella Johnson.

Funeral Services for Mr. Johnson will be held Thursday, April 9, 2015, 11:00 AM, at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Roy Kiser officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Wednesday, April 8, from 6:00 - 7:30 PM. Flowers are accepted or contributions in his memory may be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 1762, Covington, GA 30015.
