John Julius Potts, of Covington Georgia, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2024, at the age of 89. Mr. Potts was a member of Red Oak Church. He was a pillar to the Stewart Community, as well as a member of the Ancient York Masonic Lodge #127, in Worthville, Georgia. A truly devoted man, who cherished every moment spent with his wife, Melba and his family. Mr. Johnny started working in construction in 1952. He was a master builder by trade. In 1987, he and his wife Melba, became the owners of Potts Store. His farm was his passion, whether it was caring for his cows, bailing hay in his fields, or riding on his tractor or bobcat. It gave him so much joy and peace. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert M. Potts Sr. and Mary Anna Burnham Potts; Siblings, Marian Potts, Bob Potts, Fay Potts, Reginald “Little Reggie” Potts.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Melba Piper Potts: children, Leisha Potts Rogers (Roy), Cindy Potts Smith, Marty Potts (Lori), Stephanie Potts Brittain (Ray): Grandchildren, Amanda Rogers, Cody Smith, Jordyn Smith Johnston (Daniel), Drake Potts (Katie), Piper Potts, McKenzie “Mac” Brittain(Courtney), Gracie Brittain Bickford (Adam); great-grandchildren, Joey Smith, Elizabeth Smith, Amy Kent, Brantley McDaniel, Lily Potts: Siblings, Iris Potts Moore (Floyd), Marcia Potts Slocumb, Alice Potts Harper (Charles): as well as in-laws, Billy Piper (Linda), Brenda Piper Price (Carl), and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Mr. Potts will be held Wednesday, January 24, 2024, 3:00 P. M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Gary Thompson and Pastor Darrell Allen officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home, two hours prior to his service, from 1:00 – 3:00.
