John A. Richmond, Sr., of Covington, passed away January 24, 2018, at the age of 90. Upon graduating high school, Mr. Richmond joined the United States Army. He proudly served his country as a medic on various hospital ships during WWII. After his retirement from Republic Steel, Mr. Richmond and his wife, Betty, relocated to Naples, FL, but eventually settled in Newton County in 1992. Mr. Richmond is preceded in death by his parents, Marvond and Edna (Helms) Richmond; baby sister, Beverly Ann Richmond; and brother, Earl Richmond.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 69 years, Betty Richmond; daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Brian Allen of Oxford; son, John A. Richmond, Jr. and husband, Timothy Houghton of Clermont, FL; grandchildren, Sam Allen and wife, Katie, Beth Allen, David Allen; great-grandchildren, Lauren Allen, Emily Allen, Olivia Allen; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service for Mr. Richmond will be held Friday, January 26, 2018, 11:00 AM, at Lawnwood Memorial Park, 1111 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Jeff Clegg officiating. Friends may visit with the family, Thursday, January 25, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington. Flowers are accepted, or, memorial donations may be made to Abbey Hospice, 215 Azalea Court, Social Circle, GA 30025.
