John R. Thompson of Social Circle, passed away November 26, 2011, at the age of 79. He was born on January 3, 1932, in Savannah, where he lived until graduating from high school. Mr. Thompson attended Georgia State University, in Atlanta. He served in the Naval Reserve for 4 years, and worked as an auditor and accountant while raising a family of four children. After a divorce and remarriage, his family with Elsie Stafford became a central part of his life, including two adult step-children and their children. During his career, Mr. Thompson worked for General Motors, Children's Healthcare, and several banks before retiring from the IRS. Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his wife of almost 21 years, Elsie Stafford Thompson; daughter, Sarah Nussman; parents, John Roy and Lolida Armour (Hayes) Thompson, Sr.; and his sister, Sarah Thompson.Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Kay Watson of Lawrenceville, Linda and Scott Crafton of Marietta, Jo Ann and Donnie Abreo of Social Circle; sons and daughter-in-law, Glenn Thompson of Bethlehem, Eddie and Karen Stafford of Newborn; grandchildren, David Watson, DJ Watson, Joshua Crafton, Kelsey Crafton, Starr Crafton, Justin Clark, Amy Nussman, Jesse Nussman, Joshua Abreo, Caleb Abreo, Stephanie Abreo, Mary Abreo, Sarah Abreo, Justin Abreo, Anna Abreo; great-grandchildren, Casey Abreo, Xander Watson, Alexa Watson, Dusty Jeffrey, Ava Jeffrey.
Funeral Services for Mr. Thompson will be held Tuesday, November 29, 2011, 2:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Lisa Johnson officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, from 12:30-2:00 PM. Flowers are accepted, or donations may be made to The Fish (Faith in Serving Humanity), P.O.
