Joseph Reese Plunkett

Mr. Joseph Reese Plunkett of Covington, Georgia, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2023, at the age of 75.

Joe is survived by his wife of 37 years, Gail Plunkett; son, Shane Plunkett; sisters, Yvonne Wilson, Denise Martin; brother, Scott Plunkett; and aunt, Barbara Palmer; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and lots of loving friends.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, William Luke and Annie Mae Plunkett; brother, William Plunkett, and Richard Plunkett.

Joe loved working on cars, trucks, and tractors but his passion was dirt track racing, and later enjoyed drag racing with his son, Shane.

Joe worked as an auto mechanic most of his life until going to work for the State of Georgia Department of Driver Services where he retired as a Salvage Vehicle Inspector in 2008.

Joe was an animal lover, he loved his dogs and although he would never admit it, he loved his cats, too.

He had a great sense of humor, and he loved playing practical jokes on his family and friends.

A Funeral Service for Joe will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at 2:00 pm at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, Covington, GA, with pastor Kenneth Morrell and Joe Patterson officiating, and interment following in Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery, 3962 Salem Road, Covington, GA. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 10, from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Flowers and condolences can be sent to Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home.
