Katherine Wynette Thompson

Katherine Wynette Thompson, lovingly known as “Granny,” of Oxford, GA, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2024, reuniting with her beloved husband of 51 years, Robert “Bob” Thompson. Wynette was born on June 16, 1935, in Porterdale, GA, the youngest of three children.

Her heart overflowed with love for her children, grandchildren, and many generations that followed. Her proudest title was "Granny," a role she embraced fully and with joy. Wynette was a woman who took immense pride in everything she was a part of. She had a sassy, loving spirit and was a source of strength and warmth for her family.  

She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her parents Lizzie Childers Hughes and Emmit Childers, step-father Jim Hughes, daughter-in-law Dianne “Dede” Thompson, and her two older brothers, Emmit and Ludie Childers.

Wynette is survived by her son, Danny Thompson (Angela Ashley) of Oxford, GA, and her daughter, Carol Allgood (David Allgood) of Jersey, GA. She leaves behind a legacy of love in her grandchildren: Dwayne Allgood (Brandi Allgood), Eric Allgood, and Christy Bramblett (Marc Bramblett), all of Jersey, GA; Todd Thompson (Mia Thompson) of Covington, GA; and Deidre Roper of Eatonton, GA. She is also survived by her 11 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and loving friends.

Wynette’s sassy charm, unconditional love, and unwavering pride in her family will be cherished and remembered always. 

A service to honor her life will be held Saturday September 28, 2024, at 2PM at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors from 12PM to 2PM.
