Kattie Mae Ellis, of Conyers, passed away Friday, September 29, 2023, at the age of 91. Kattie Mae Ellis, was the oldest of her siblings, leaving little time for formal education for herself. She later married twice, both marriages ended in divorce, leaving her the sole provider in raising her 9 children. She worked very hard picking cotton, harvesting farm crops and working in factories. She later went to night school, learning how to read and write, also with the help of her children. Kattie later became a home care intern, worked in restaurants, supervised housekeeping of the famous White Inn in historic Fredonia, NY and in her later years Walmart, as a greeter. She was always positive and had a good disposition throughout her difficult years. She loved drawing, music, dancing (once stealing the show at a James Brown concert). She also loved fishing, and was known for her “good cooking.” She would also sell food to bring in additional income. Her work ethics were exemplary, it was her legacy and she was known for it. Her hobbies were usually things that benefited others. Like cooking, sewing, laundry and later beading jewelry. After the death of her daughter Mattie Ruth, Kattie raised her grandchild Catherine as her own, considering her a gift to replace her loss. Kattie was nominated “Mother of the Year” and her story was published in the Evening Observer. She was loved by many and her sense of humor brought joy to all who knew her. Kattie later studied with Jehovah’s witnesses and appreciated having her Bible questions answered. Her hope was in the resurrection, she loved the Bible account about Lazarus. Now resting in Jehovah’s memory, she will be missed by all.
Mrs. Ellis was preceded in death by her daughter, Mattie Ruth Morgan; mother, Mary Alice Fedrick; father, George Cobb; son-in-law, David West; siblings, Henry James Fedrick, Billy McCoy, Peter Fedrick, James Author Fedrick, Betty Reeder, Bertha Watson, Izola Marshall, Ola Mae Grice, Nathalie Sutton.
