Larry W. Herrington, age 69, of Covington, passed away February 27, 2019. After graduating from Valdosta High School in 1967, Larry attended Georgia Tech for two years before he answered the call to serve his country. As a proud veteran of the United States Army, he honorably served in Germany, as part of the 4th Armored Division, and in Vietnam, with the 4th Infantry Division. Upon completing his tour of duty, Larry embarked on a remarkable civilian career that would span over 47 years. He demonstrated a tireless work ethic and was employed by Southeastern Nut & Bolt, Peachtree State Fasteners, Gateway Industrial Supply, Cargo Control Solutions and Andersson Supply. Larry's daily walk with God was deeply personal. In past years, he attended worship at Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, The Baptist Tabernacle, Gateway Community Church, Zion Baptist Church and Hopewell Presbyterian Church. Larry's interests were music - he played trombone for his high school marching band - and sports. He was a passionate and enthusiastic fan of the Atlanta Braves. Larry will be profoundly missed by those that knew him - especially his granddaughter, Avery, who was the light of his life. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, C.C. and Robertha (Foster) Herington; and sister, Janice Herrington Sparks.
Larry is survived by his faithful wife of 46 years, Judy Herrington; son, Robert Cleaton Herrington; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Herrington Henley and her husband, Dustin; granddaughter, Avery Camille Michie Henley, all of Covington; sister, Cheryl Camp; brother-in-law, Daryl Sparks, both of Valdosta; niece, Shannon McConico and her husband, Marcus; nephews, Roger Sparks and his wife, Kristina, Brian Sparks and his wife, Ansley, Kevin Sparks, Stephen Sparks and his wife, Ewelina; as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews.
