Mrs. Laura "Becky" Banks of Covington died November 27, 2010 at the age of 96. She was born in Monticello to the late David Woodfin and India Kate Henderson Cargile and was the widow of the late William Owens Banks. She had been a resident of Mansfield and Covington for 70 years, a member of Mansfield United Methodist Church and retired from Newton County Board of Education after serving for 43 years as children's transportation driver and as manager of the Porterdale Elementary School lunchroom. She enjoyed gardening, canning vegetables and making ceramics. Mrs. Banks was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great- grandmother, sister and friend to many.
Mrs. Banks is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law; Carolyn and Hal Johnson of Jasper, Bonnie and Tommy Glaze of Buford; grand-daughters Sheryl and John Damken of Alpharetta, Tracy Rhoden of Lawrenceville, grandson; William (Billy) Matthew III and Kim Lancaster, of Greensboro; great-grandchildren, Shanna and Chad Davis of Alpharetta, Stacey and Bryan Irvine of Dallas, TX, Matt Lancaster of Covington, Michelle Lancaster of Greensboro, James Rhoden of Lawrenceville, Chloe Rhoden of Lawrenceville; great-great-granddaughter, Sadie Davis of Alpharetta; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Banks will be held Monday, November 29, 2010, 1:00 P.M. at the Access Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, with interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 1353 Jennings Mill Road, Suite A, Bogart, Georgia, 30622. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, November 29, 12:00 noon until 1:00 P.M.
