He was born in Rochelle, Texas, on November 6, 1936, to parents Christine Martha Kirkham and Edd Shirley. Throughout his 87 years, Lewis's zest for life and his adept craftsmanship touched the hearts of all who knew him.
Lewis honorably served in the United States Navy, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer in 1973 after a notable 20-year career as a radioman aboard a ship. His dedication to his nation was a testament to his strength of character and his commitment to duty. After his distinguished service, he found joy and solace in the simplicities of life.
An avid golfer, Lewis could often be found on the green, relishing the game he adored. He was also a connoisseur of card games, with solitaire and sudoku being among his favored pastimes. His love for old western movies, devouring a slice of pecan pie, and traveling the country in his RV encapsulated his passion for life's simple pleasures.
Lewis leaves behind a legacy of love and fond memories. He was preceded in death by his mother, Christine, father, Edd, and sister, Mary Francis Eakin. He is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia of Covington, GA; his son, Anthony Shirley of Sugar Hill, GA; his daughter, Angela Shirley of Lawrenceburg, TN; his adored grandchildren, Ashley and Adrian; and his cherished great-grandson, Kalani Peters, all of Lawrenceburg, TN. Lewis is also survived by his siblings, Jacqueline Wert of Anaheim, CA, Jerry Lee Kirkham of Young, AZ, and William C. Kirkham of Cortland, IL. His faithful canine companion, Kodiak, will also feel the absence of his kind presence.
Lewis Wayne Shirley will be immensely missed but forever remembered for the warmth and joy he brought into this world.
