Marcia Marie West-Scarlett

d. October 8, 2018

Marcia Marie West-Scarlett, 56, of Covington, Georgia, formerly of Florida, USA, and Kingston, Jamaica, passed away Monday, October 8, 2018. Marcia was born in St. Andrew Jamaica, December 13, 1961, the second daughter of union between Robert Alexander West and Gladys May Williams. Marcia went to the Shortwood Infant and Primary School. She then went through the secondary school system, attended the Tarrant Secondary School; thereafter, she completed several short courses in business.

Marcia later worked with her mom doing pastry making and cashiering. After that, Marcia took a course in Telephone Operating and worked with the Federated Pharmaceutical Company, Kingston Public Hospital, and later, Jamaica Observer Newspaper Company and Prime Life Insurance Company in Jamaica.

However, nothing prevented her from doing what she loved most - cooking and baking, including catering birthdays, weddings, office functions, lunch deliveries and various other events. She brought joy and happiness to anyone she met, and her contagious smile and laughter could brighten any room, especially when she bounced a dish or two from her scrumptious cuisine on you.

Ten years ago, Marcia became a resident of the United States. Here, she continued her love of the culinary arts and worked various other jobs to include that of customer service representative and cashier at J.C. Penney in Florida. No matter what was going on, Marcia was always ready with a smile and a meal to make everyone feel better from it.

Marcia later became ill and suffered a stroke and kidney disease. She was hospitalized in Florida and shortly after her release, she moved to Atlanta to be with her sister, Winsome, who cared for her until she became a resident at the Sunshine Noel Personal Care Home, then Idris Twins Personal Care Home, and finally Judah Personal Care Home, where she passed away.

Marcia will be remembered by all she met as a bright ray of sunlight who thought of others before herself and made everyone around her feel special whenever she prepared a meal for them. She did this to the point where she failed to manage her affairs in the way she should. Notwithstanding, Marcia still showed her generosity to others even when she had nothing but a meal to share. Her bravery and courage were characteristics of always being hospitable in providing a warm meal to share; that guided her through her life and touched everyone around her. While we mourn her loss, we will always be grateful for the example of courage that she set every day. She was preceded in death by her ---
