Martha Lonita Hughes

Martha Lonita Hughes, a beloved resident of Covington, GA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on February 22, 1951, in Scottdale, Georgia, Martha lived a life filled with love, generosity, and vibrant stories. 

Martha was a dedicated wife of 37 years to George Robert Hughes and together they raised their beautiful family in Covington. Martha's love for her family was great, as evidenced by the strong relationships she maintained with her siblings. She loved chatting on the phone with them, sharing stories, and ensuring the family bond remained strong. 

Martha was a dedicated florist, having brightened many lives with her exquisite floral arrangements during her time at Winn Dixie. Her genuine and caring nature was evident through her actions, as she adored baking for everyone she met and cherished doing for others. Known for her culinary talents, she made unforgettable cake pops and delightful macarons that brought joy to many. 

 Beyond her professional life, Martha was an ardent reader, indulging in the captivating world of romance novels. She had a spirited love for adventure, with Las Vegas being one of her favorite destinations, bringing her cherished memories and stories. Her dedication to family was paramount; she took immense joy in planning family gatherings. Whether it was spending a day at the grocery store or enjoying the warmth of her home, Martha treasured every moment spent with her family. 

 She is survived by her loving sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Cheryl Hughes, and James and Samantha Hughes, who cherish her memory deeply. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren, Dillon, Ashley, and Jonathan Hughes, along with Kameron and Jesse Treadwell, and her great-grandchildren, Rylan and Jensen Treadwell. Martha also leaves behind her devoted sisters and brothers-in-law, Joann and Jimmy Smith, Judy Willcutt, Angie and Brian Nix, Debbie and Donnie Vowell, along with several nieces and nephews who all held a special place in her heart. 

 Martha was preceded in death by her dear parents, Robert Lee Hyde and Ruby Wilburn Hyde, her loving spouse, George Robert Hughes, sisters Helen Strickland and Jeanette Payne, and her brothers Charlie, Ray, Bobby, and Danny Hyde. 

Arrangements have been entrusted to Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home. Martha will be celebrated and remembered by her family and friends at a later date.
