Mary Virginia Hicks

Access RoadMary Virginia Hicks of Covington, passed away March 30, 2011, at the age of 86. Mary enjoyed reading, traveling, swimming, and working with ceramics. She loved donating her time to church and volunteer organizations. Mary was very hospitable - always welcoming her children's friends into her home. She was a loving, supportive, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend to many. Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by her son, David Anderson Hicks; mother, Sarah Elizabeth (Spillers) Mitchell; father, Dr. James Boswell Mitchell; and her second mother, Elizabeth (Spivey) Mitchell.Survivors include her husband, James L. (Jim) Hicks of Covington; daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy and Jim Stacy of Jasper, Debbie and Rick Gattoni of McDonough; son and daughter-in-law, Robert L. (Bob) Sr., and Beverly Hicks of Covington; 15 grandchildren, Rob Hicks, Kim Caudill, Jamey Hicks, Danny Hicks, Heather Hicks, Greg Hicks, Jim Stacy, Jennifer Stacy, Brian Stacy, Chad Stacy, Robin Hicks, Patrick Hicks, Rya Hicks, Tori Pezzarossi, Landon Pezzarossi; 17 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Betty and E.R. Sammons of Oxford, Jane Mitchell of Covington; brothers and sister-in-law, Walter Mitchell of Alpharetta, Richard and Audine Mitchell of Hermitage, TN, Robert S. (Bob) Mitchell of Covington; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Memorial Service for Mrs. Hicks will be held Saturday, April 2, 2011, 2:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, with Rev. Ed Galbreath and Rev. Allan Tarr officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Saturday, from 1-2 PM.
