Mary Bowie Whittaker

Mary Bowie Whittaker of Covington, passed away on November 8, 2013. She was born February 5, 1932, in Manchester, Georgia, to Roy E. and Odessa Davis Bowie. She graduated from Porterdale High School Class of 1949, and was also a graduate of Crawford W. Long School of Nursing. Ms. Whittaker worked as a surgical nurse at Georgia Baptist Hospital and for Dr. Charles Dowman for many years. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Joe Whittaker; brother, James Richard Bowie.

Survivors include her sister, Annese B. Mathews; sister-in-law, Edith H. Bowie; niece, Annese Furis, her husband, Jim, and their sons, Alex and Zane; nephews, Chris Bowie, his wife, Barrie, and their children, Haden, Nathan and Caitlin; Brent Bowie; Richard Bowie, his wife Holly, and their daughters, Madison and Margaux; many cousins and dear friends.

A Graveside service will be held Saturday, November 16, 2013, 2:00 PM at Lawnwood Memorial Park with a reception following at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington. In accordance with her wishes, the family requests no flowers.
