Matthew Adam West

Matthew Adam West, of Oxford, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2025 at the age of 43. Matt was a humble, talented young man with the biggest heart in the world. He lived his life selflessly, always putting others before himself. A devoted dad, he was the kind of dad anyone would be lucky to have—and his own daddy was his hero.

Known for his quick wit and love for cracking jokes, Matt could light up any room. He was a hard worker, deeply dedicated to his community, serving as a fireman with Newton County for nine years after many more as a volunteer.

Matt was an outstanding athlete, playing baseball for Newton County Rec and Social Circle Baseball. He also had a deep love for the outdoors—spending time hunting, fishing, and carving beautiful pieces from wood with his hands.

His legacy is one of kindness, laughter, and unwavering love. He will be missed more than words can express.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Amber West; grandfather, Marion A. Eidson, and grandparents, Buck and Mercedes West. 

Survivors include his loving wife, Katie West; sons, Tyson West, Talan West; daughters, Kaydence Cargile, Kendall West; parents, Stacy and Artie West; brother, Jonathon and Kelley West; grandparents, Tommy and MaryAnn Duncan; niece, Georgia West, Savannah Cox; previous wife, Amber Maughon and her daughter, Channing Millard; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A Funeral Service for Matt will be held Saturday, April 26, 2025, 12:00 P.M., at Centennial Baptist Church, 5321 Brownwood Road, in Rutledge, with interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park, 1111 Access Road, in Covington. Friends are invited to visit with the family Friday, April 25, from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M., at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington.
