Mattie Lou Johnson

Mattie Lou Johnson of Covington, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2020, at the age of 88. Having the courage to live her dream, Mrs. Johnson was a successful licensed cosmetologist for 50 years, retiring at the age of 85. She loved being a beautician in the town of Mansfield, GA and after her husband, Jack’s death, her customers became part of her family. Mrs. Johnson enjoyed gardening, canning, and cooking with her husband prior to his passing. When she was not at the salon, she enjoyed her Monday grocery store trips and ceramics at the senior center. Mrs. Johnson will forever be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend – and the absolute best grandmother to her granddaughter, Christy, who she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert, “Jack” Johnson; parents, Joe and Ola Walden; sisters, Mildred Kimbrell, Lenora Avery, Jeanette Willard; and brother, Lonnie Walden.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Regina and Cliff Prosser; granddaughter, Christy Prosser; sister, Elizabeth Reece; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service for Mrs. Johnson will be held Wednesday, October 7, 2020, 11:00 A.M., at Lawnwood Memorial Park, 1111 Access Road, in Covington. Friends are invited to visit with the family at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, one hour prior to her service, beginning at 10:00 A.M.

CDC guidelines recommend social distancing (6 feet apart) and wearing of masks while in public.  Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home requests that you observe these recommendations while in our funeral home attending visitations and/or services.  In addition, gatherings are limited to 50 persons or less in our facility at one time.  Please honor these restrictions for the safety of the family, yourself, and our staff.
