Michael "Mike" Wade Haygood of Mansfield died February 20, 2013 at the age of 60. He and his wife, Wanda, have been residents of Jasper County since 1989. A nature lover, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. He was very artistic and a true hobbyist, having handcrafted birdhouses and walking canes. Mike was described as "the salt of the earth," and will be remembered as an all-around good man. He dearly loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Lois (Cowan) Haygood, and grandson, Ryan Jeffares.Survivors include his most loving wife, Wanda Keahey Haygood; children and spouses, Crystal and Kenneth Preffer, Rodney Jeffares, Pamela and Steve Shelton, Kenny and Susan Jeffares, Sherry and Karl Varnes; grandchildren, Brad Goodwin, Stephanie Goodwin, Steven Jeffares, Kara Jeffares, Michael Jeffares, Codie Jeffares, Elaine White, Robert Varnes; a host of great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Johanna and Mike Burkhalter; as well as several nieces and nephews.A Memorial Service for Mike Haygood will be held at 4:00 P.M., Saturday, February 23, 2013, at Providence Baptist Church, Railroad Street, in Shady Dale, with Pastor Ed Westbrook officiating.
