Olga “Mickie” Ruth Whitley, of Covington, passed away Monday, June 24, 2024, at the remarkable age of 100. Mrs. Whitley enjoyed camping in her RV, square dancing, and watching birds – especially Hummingbirds. She loved spending time with her husband, Perry, whether it was tagging alongside him on his tour bus that he drove or working in the yard on their flower and vegetable gardens. Mrs. Whitley enjoyed cooking delicious meals for her family and hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas at her house. She loved her husband and family dearly and will be missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry Whitley; son, Larry Whitley; infant son, Kenneth Whitley; Parents, Thomas Joel and Lorraine Ellington; and siblings, J.C. Ellington (Mary), Harvey Anderson Ellington (Uvah), Hershel Ellington (Martha), Lavelle McCullough (George), Charles Therman Ellington (Jeanette), Otto Ellington, Ottis Ellington (Nora).
Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Whisenant (Mike); daughter-in-law, Linda Whitley; granddaughters, Shannon Putman (Ty), Heather Ryan (Kevin), Anne Marie Swanstrom (Jason); 7 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Faye Ellington, Bobbie Jean Whitley Lindsey; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service for Mrs. Whitley will be held Friday, June 28, 2024, 11:00 A.M., at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, 3150 Lawrenceville Highway, in Tucker. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the graveside, one hour before her service, from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haven Fellowship Church, 2240 Smyrna Road SW, Conyers, Georgia 30094, or to your favorite charity.
