Oscar Beam

Mr. Oscar Beam of Covington died May 20, 2012 at the age of 84. He was born in Covington to the late Samuel Augustus and Ada Lavada "Watkins" Beam and was a lifelong resident of Newton County. He worked for Bibb Manufacturing and retired from Covington Molding in 1994 with 24 years of service. He then retired from Wal-Mart with 13 years of service. Oscar was a member of Mansfield Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday School Class. He enjoyed working in the yard, cutting grass and vegetable gardening. He is preceded in death by his son, Steven Beam.
Oscar is survived by his loving wife, Betty R. Beam of Covington; children, Terry L Waid of Covington, Jerry P. Waid of Marietta; sisters, Eula Thompson of Franklin, N. C.; brother, Johnny Beam of Covington; 4 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Carol Spencer of Rutledge, Lily Brantly of Thompson.
A graveside service for Oscar will be held Tuesday, May 22, 2012, 11:00 AM at Lawnwood Memorial Park in Covington, with Dr. Jeff Perkins and Rev. Wayne Durden officiating. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road on Monday, May 21, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
