Patricia Louise Royal

Patricia Louise Royal, of Laurel, Mississippi, passed away on Friday, December 4, 2020, at the age of 78. Mrs. Royal was a caring family woman and a member of Christian Valley Missionary Baptist Church in Laurel, MS. Patricia was born and raised in Laurel, Mississippi, the daughter and only child of Lemuel and Gabriella Thigpen. She was a Classically trained Pianist and Opera Singer, beginning her Music and Voice studies at the tender age of three years old. She attended Xavier University of New Orleans as a Music major, something she loved and would carry through all of her life. In 1962, she married the love of her life, the Reverend Dr. Calvin C. Royal, Sr., who preceded her in death in 2001. They married and raised their family in Los Angeles, California. She enjoyed baking at an expert level, creating cherished family recipes, and volunteer work - but her true life’s passion was music and her desire to share that love never wavered. In addition to her abilities as a Pianist, Organist, and Choir Director, she was also gifted with amazing vocal talents that were enjoyed by many. Mrs. Royal’s memory will carry on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her best.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Coolidge Royal, Sr.; mother, Gabriella Ruth Thigpen; father, Lemuel John Thigpen; daughter, Carla Coletta Royal. She is survived by her daughter, Christina C. Royal; son, Calvin C. Royal, Jr.; grandchildren, Andre L. Haltom-Royal, Calvin C. Royal, III, Crystal C. Royal and Candice C. Royal; great-grandchildren, Aliyeah Royal and Avanna Royal; cousins, Charles Walker, Jr., Keri Walker Robinson and Nelson Walker, Jr.

A Graveside Service for Mrs. Royal will be held Wednesday, December 9, 2020, 12:00 Noon at Lawnwood Memorial Park, 1111 Access Road, in Covington, GA, with Pastor Charles Reynolds officiating.
