Access RoadPerry Hoyt Nixon, age 68, passed away in his Conyers, Georgia home on May 19. Perry was born in Clinton, AR. He grew up mainly in Chicago, IL and also spent some time in Alabama. As a young man, Perry joined the Air Force. While stationed in Rapid City, South Dakota, he met and married Marta McIntyre. Together they raised four children: David, Kelley, Jason, and Katie. After leaving the military, Perry embarked on what would be a thirty-year career in the retail furniture industry that took the family to Florida, Wisconsin, and, finally, Georgia. After retirement, Perry became an integral staff member at The Rockdale House for Men, where he provided transportation and encouragement to other men on their way to clean and sober living. Perry was a devout Christian and garnered much strength from reading scripture. He was also a good dancer, with a penchant for The Twist; a habitual whistler; and a lover of black coffee, long naps, and the song "Moon River." Few knew, but Perry also made an excellent apple pie. Survivors include Marta and their four children, two grandsons, his sister Betty Pomplun, his brother Ray Nixon, and a number of close nephews and nieces. Perry was preceded in death by his sister, Laverne Craddock, and his dear younger brother, Kenny. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 26 at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, Covington, GA. Visitations will precede the services, with family gathering at 12:30 PM and friends welcome at 1:00 PM. Perry will be buried immediately following the ceremony in the military section of Lawnwood Memorial Park near his brother Kenny.
