Phillip Tapes of Covington, passed away June 20, 2017, at 82 years of age. Having served in Vietnam, Mr. Tapes was a veteran of the United States Navy and retired as an E-7 Master Chief, after 23 years of dedicated service to his country. A lifelong patriot, he was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the VFW, and the American Legion, as well as being a Mason. Mr. Tapes was also a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Phyllis Tapes; and parents, Syvester and Mariah (Williams) Tapes.
Survivors include his loving wife of 24 years, Pat "Dear" Tapes; daughters and son-in-law, Fannie Mae Tapes, Melissa Tapes, Rita Tapes, Monique George, Roslind and Desi Veals; sons and daughter-in-law, Phillip Tapes, Michael Tapes, Louis and Johnetta George, III; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Joyce Russell, Mary Broadway, Rosa Sutton; brothers, Dr. S.S. Rogers; Will Rogers, Roy Rogers, Bishop Melvin Rogers; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Tapes will be held Thursday, June 29, 2017, 1 PM, at Macedonia Baptist Church, 155 Macedonia Church Road, in Jackson, with Dr. Lane Sanders officiating. A private interment will follow on Friday, June 30, in Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA. Friends may visit with his family at the church, one hour prior to his service, from 12:00 - 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Tapes memory to Macedonia Baptist Church, Awana Church Ministry.
