Phillip Nelson Payne, of Stone Mountain, passed away Monday, March 6, 2023, at the age of 51. Phillip loved superheroes, Batman, Superman, and his all-time favorite, Spiderman. He liked Matchbox Cars, monster trucks and enjoyed listening to country music, especially his favorite song “Pontoon”. Phillip was preceded in death by his mother, Rebecca Mote; and brother, James Shepard.
Survivors include his father, John Wesley Payne; sister, Barbara Crews (Jerry); brothers, Charles Payne (Dani Michele), Paul Payne (Marie); aunts and uncles, Judy Bush (Larry), Patricia Butler, Mary Kitchens (Cary), Valerie Hall (David); nieces, Lisa Payne, Ashley Corbin (Adam), Brandy Oglesby (Jason), Samantha Jenkins (Landon), Marjorie Payne; nephews, Charles Payne, Jr., James Payne; and several cousins.
A Celebration of Life for Phillip will be held Saturday, March 11, 2023, 3:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Sean Nix officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home, Friday, March 10, from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Miracle League Newton County in honor of Phillip.
