Rev. Arie Mayo Heard

d. August 28, 2020

Covington

Rev. Arie M. Heard, of Covington, passed away Friday, August 28, 2020, at the age of 76. Her continuous hunger for learning led her to earn a B.A. in English from the University of Miami, a B. Edu. from Georgia College at Milledgeville, designation as a Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow (LUTCF) from Bethesda Institute, and an ongoing certificate of ordination. Arie lived a life devoted to the Lord as she spent 10 years on the pastoral staff at The Church at Covington and served as CEO, President, and Instructor of the Bible Institute, a ministry of Sanctuary Ministries International, Inc., for seven years. She touched lives all over the globe as she successfully completed 28 mission trips by the time she reached her 60s. These journeys included speaking at crusades in Russia, China, Korea and Africa; volunteering at orphanages in Mexico; aiding Holocaust survivors in Jerusalem throughout 13 trips; and helping develop poverty-stricken areas in Kentucky over seven trips. Among her decades of traveling the world, Arie also worked as an experienced insurance agent, dedicated time to her peers as a trusted counselor, and blessed many, many people with her unparalleled level of friendship. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Mack and Edna Mildred (Stone) Mayo; and sister, Susan Mayo Almond.

Arie will be deeply missed and forever adored by friends and family near and far, especially her daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Chad Nelson; daughter and son-in-law, Sonya and Jimmy Powers; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Sally Heard. Also left with treasured memories are her grandchildren, Jonathan, David, Nicholas, Natalie, Noah, and Laney, along with their spouses; and great-grandchildren, Austin, Mackenzie, and Brody. She will also be remembered by her sister and brother-in-law, Edna and Frank McElroy.
