Robert (Bob) Jackson Barrett, Sr., of Covington, died February 14, 2011, with his family by his side. He was born in Athens to the late Charles H. and Wilamena (Jackson) Barrett, and was a Veteran of the U. S. Army, having served during the Korean War. Mr. Barrett had worked for National Life and Accident Insurance Company, and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1994. He was a member of Conyers First United Methodist Church, where he was an active member of the Friendship Sunday School class. He was a lifelong Georgia Bulldog fan and enjoyed his Friday night Mexican Train friends. Survivors include his devoted wife, Martha Griffith Barrett; his three children, Robert J. Barrett, Jr. of Covington, Kathy Barrett Nieuwstraten of Peachtree City, and Julie Barrett Knox of Covington; 9 grandchildren; sister, Linda Barrett Dickens of Watkinsville; several nephews and one niece. The family will receive friends at Conyers First United Methodist Church from 6 to 8 PM on Wednesday, February 16, 2011. A Celebration of Life for Mr. Barrett will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 17, 2011, at Conyers First United Methodist Church, with Dr. John Beyers and Rev. Dan Brokaw, officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Conyers First United Methodist Church Building Fund.
