Covington

Robert Owen Dawkins, 71, of Covington, GA, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2024, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born April 7, 1953, in Wichita, KS, to his loving parents Duncan and Mary Virginia Dawkins.

Mr. Dawkins, a graduate of Engineering from Georgia Tech University, will be remembered by his family for being a kind, caring, and gentle man. After graduating from Georgia Tech University, Robert’s passion for travel and cultural exploration blossomed. Along with his sister, they explored much of the world together. From Europe to India to Africa and everywhere in between, they wanted to see and experience all the world had to offer. During these travels, he honed his photography skills, capturing the beauty he saw in the world. This passion would stay with him throughout his life.

Upon returning to the USA after years of travel, he went to work in the service of others. Through his work as a Captain for a local Catering Company, he helped to bring the joy and beauty he experienced in the world to others on their special occasions.

Mr. Dawkins had a love of music, especially anything by his favorite band, The Grateful Dead. He inspired many around him with his ability to learn multiple instruments on his own without a single formal lesson. Mr. Dawkins gardens bloomed with life, reflecting his vibrant, gentle spirit and love of all life in the world.

Mr. Dawkins is survived by his wife, Olga Dawkins, stepson Austin (Alicia) Mayes, step grandchildren; Wolf Mayes, Logan Mayes, sister Diane Ruiz, nephews; Derek (Kyndel) Ruiz, Matthew (Becca) Ruiz and great-nephews; Mason Ruiz, William Ruiz.

Please join the family to celebrate his life at a graveside service, Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Rolling Hills Memory Gardens, 4355 Hwy 92, Acworth, GA 30102.
