Robert Franklin “Bob” Strawn of Oxford, GA, passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at the age of 93. Mr. Strawn was married to the love of his life, Jean Strawn (“Hon”) for 69 1/2 years. His prayer and desire of the last few years was to be able to take care of his precious wife as long as needed, and God graciously granted that request with her passing 11 days earlier.
Mr. Strawn was a dedicated and passionate Christian man who loved to worship God with his local church and served in many positions including Sunday School Superintendent, teacher, song leader and trustee. He was known by his powerful testimony in which he would always declare, “I’ve got a made-up mind!” Mr. Strawn was also a dedicated and consistent working man whose high work ethics were reflected in every job he undertook. Throughout his childhood and teen years, he worked on farms with his Dad. One of his favorite farm tasks was to plow a field with a mule. He went on to become a successful award-winning salesman with Taylor Freezer, from which he retired in 1992. He and Jean enjoyed traveling and he also enjoyed a couple of part-time jobs transporting cars for Ginn Motor Company and delivering prescriptions for a local pharmacy. Mr. Strawn never met a stranger and was known and loved by all with whom he came in contact.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter and son-in-law, Gracie and Darrell Payne; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Pamela Strawn; grandchildren and spouses, Leslie and Tim Mitchell, Andrea and Jared Foreman, Christopher and Shay Payne, and Lauren Strawn; great-grandchildren, Hunter Mitchell, Hayden Mitchell, Elliot Foreman, Ansley Payne, Amberly Foreman, and Caroline Payne; brothers, sister and sisters-in-law, Jimmy and Caroline Strawn, Beverly Strawn Pope, Hiram and Lenette Strawn; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Martha Pope, JoAnne and Larry Cobb, B.J. and Annie Hunter, and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a private family viewing at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, April 15, 2021, at Caldwell and Cowan Funeral home located at 1215 Access Road, in Covington, GA, followed by a graveside service at 2:00 P.M. at Lawnwood Cemetery (located next to the funeral home) to which all are invited.
