Roger W. Sheridan, of Newborn, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at the age of 92. Mr. Sheridan was the current Mayor of Newborn where he held the record of being the oldest mayor in the country and was a retired Army Captain having served in WWII. He holds two records in Construction and Engineering in the Guinness Book of World Records and was a manager for international engineering projects in 32 countries. He was a member of Newborn United Methodist Church, Elks Lodge #1806, The American Legion, The VFW, American Society of Civil Engineers, Disabled American Veterans, Military Order of the Purple Heart and The Beavers.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 69 years, Shirley P. Sheridan of Newborn; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen Sheridan and Richard Farber of Den Haag, Netherlands, Margaret and Keyser Cartledge of Covington, Susan Johnston of Newborn, Sherrie Sheridan of Lula, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Kelly Sheridan of Roanoke, VA, Larry and Debra Sheridan of Marietta; 7 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
A Memorial Service for Mr. Sheridan will be held Sunday, December 15, 2013, 2:00 PM, at Newborn United Methodist Church, with Rev. CeCe Nickolich officiating, and interment, with military honors, following in Newborn Memorial Cemetery.
