Roy Lee Watson, age 77, died December 25, 2010, at Newton General Hospital in his hometown of Covington. Born in Porterdale to the late Harold Frank and Addie Marie Edwards Watson, he loved fishing and enjoyed working on his own inventions. A 20-year Veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Watson was a retired Drill Instructor and the recipient of several commendation medals, serving his Country during the Korean War and with two tours of duty in Vietnam. Mr. Watson was a classic car enthusiast who enjoyed restoring old cars and watching the classic car auctions on television. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, and was a friend to those who knew him.
Surviving are his loving wife, Shirley Anne Watson; daughter, Cindy Webb; sons, Mike Watson and Tim Watson, all of Covington; grandchildren, Michael Watson of Snohomish, WA, Melissa Smith of Plantation FL, Stephanie Poynor of Ft. Polk, LA, and Jennifer Smith of Daytona Beach, FL; great grandchildren, Addison Kirkus, Madison Poynor, Barrett Heckathorn, Skyler Phillips, Landon Poynor, Alexis Phillips, Julian Busbee and Kingston Everett Poynor; sister, Bonnie Maddox of Tucker; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services for Mr. Watson will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at the Access Road Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, with Pastor Phil Budensiek, officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park, Covington.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home, 1215 Access Road, Tuesday, December 28, from 6:00 until 9:00 PM.
