Ruth Gartenhaus Smith

Access RoadRuth Gartenhaus Smith, 88, of Conyers, passed away November 23, 2011, at Hospice House of Conyers, surrounded by her family and friends. She was a long-time, active member of Canaan Baptist Church, in Covington, where she was involved with the Sunshine Fellowship group; and a faithful supporter of the church and its mission projects. She was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Jacob Gartenhaus of Atlanta, GA and Chattanooga, TN, who were founders of the International Board of Jewish Missions. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, James. A. Smith. Survivors include her two sisters, Miriam Stanly of Lawrenceville, Frances Hardy of Signal Mountain, TN; brother, Paul Gartenhaus of Ringgold, GA; 4 nieces and 6 nephews; and many close and cherished friends.Funeral Services for Mrs. Smith will be held Sunday, November 27, 2011, 3:00 PM, at Canaan Baptist Church, in Covington, with Dr. Scott Caudill, Rev. Thomas Satterfield, and Rev. Jeremy Smith officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, Saturday, November 26, from 4:00-6:00 PM.
