Sarah Elizabeth (Betty) Mitchell Sammons passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025. Born on November 18, 1932 in Saint Louis, Missouri to parents James Mitchell Jr. and Sarah Spillers Mitchell. Betty was a loving devoted wife, mother, sister, Grandmother, and cherished friend. 

Betty is preceded in death by her parents James Boswell Mitchell Jr. and Sarah Elizabeth Spillers Mitchell, her step-mother Elizabeth (Beth) Spivey Mitchell, husband ER Sammons, brothers-James and Richard Mitchell, sisters-Frances Mitchell Rusk and Mary (Sis) Mitchell Hicks, son William Charles (Bubba) Sammons, daughter Teresa (Terri) Sammons Mast (Ron); grandson Michael Sammons.

She is survived by brothers Walter Mitchell and Robert (Bob) Mitchell; sister Jane Mitchell Sheffield; son Walter Sammons (Holly); granddaughters Ashleigh Dees (Casey), Kristyn Tobey (Anthony), Abbey Holland (Bryan), Jessi Cleveland (Will), and Chuck Sammons; Great grandchildren Blaine Tobey, Cameron Dees, Macey Dees, Brooks Dees, Porter Cleveland, Mitchell Cleveland, Carter Holland, Hudson Holland and Nolan Holland. 

Betty was a fantastic cook and gardener who loved putting smiles on her family and friends faces by serving them delicious meals and desserts. Cornbread, home grown vegetables, and sweet tea was a typical meal. Homemade soups were also her specialty. Banana Bread was also a special treat she distributed to her doctor, nurse, dentist, hair dresser, and anyone who performed some service for her. Betty loved Jesus and the promise of going to Heaven and all that encompasses. She lived on a 32 acre farm for over 33 years with her husband raising cows and growing vegetables. She had a stroke 2 plus years ago and has been living at The Fellowship Home in Milledgeville. There she made many new friends with the other patients and Fellowship staff. She was loved by many and will be remembered as a sweet lady who blessed all that were fortunate to truly know her.

In lieu of flowers, the family request you make a contribution to Betty’s favorite charity St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

A Graveside Service For Betty will be held Sunday, January 12, 2025, 2:00 P.M., at Lawnwood Memorial Park, 1111 Access Road, in Covington.
