Scott Layne King, 45, of Covington, passed away June 3, 2014. Scott was a member of the First Baptist Church, in Covington, and a 1986 graduate of Heritage High School, in Conyers. After graduating from Heritage, he continued his education at DeKalb Technical College and later graduated from Florida Baptist Theological College with his degree in Christian education. He worked for a printing company as a graphic artist, was an elementary school teacher and a youth minister. His hard work is what enabled him to pay his own way through college. Scott's passion for youth led him to become instrumental in bringing World Changers to Avon Park, Florida. World Changers is an organization providing Christian youth and adults with opportunities to serve a community both physically and spiritually. He was the most fun loving, happy person; and was a devoted son, brother and uncle. He cherished his family, and enjoyed doing special things for his sisters, including paying for each of their prom dresses, and even contacting a Miss USA coach to help coach his sister, Keri, for the Newton County High School pageant. Scott was loved by many, and will be missed by all who were lucky enough to call him friend.
Survivors include his parents, Jimmy and Brenda E. King of Covington; sisters and brothers-in-law, Melanie and Ricky Jones of Covington, Jennifer and Jeremy Lilly of Oxford, Keri King of Covington; nieces and nephews, Emilie and Jake Jones, Payton and Averie Lilly, Anslee King; and his special friend, Jakie Hogan of Covington.
Funeral Services for Scott will be held Friday, June 6, 2014, 11:00 AM, at the First Baptist Church, in Covington, with Dr. Cody McNutt and Dr. Michael Lawson officiating. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall, Thursday, June 5, from 5:00 - 8:00 PM. Interment will be held Saturday, June 7, in Arab Memorial Cemetery, following services at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, in Arab, Alabama. Flowers are accepted, or donations may be made to the Scott King Memorial Fund, c/o West Newton Elementary School, 13387 Brown Bridge Road, Covington, GA 30016.
