Shirley J. Davis

July 22, 1939 — March 3, 2013

Access Road Shirley J. Davis, of Covington, passed away March 3, 2013, at the age of 73.  She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.  As a teenager Mrs. Davis worked at H. L. Green Company in Atlanta where she met her husband of 56 years.  She was employed by the Newton County Board of Education for 8 years prior to retiring on disability.   Mrs. Davis was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Social Circle.  She read her bible daily, and enjoyed camping, fishing, cooking, and crocheting as long as she was able.  She was especially known for her delicious cakes.  Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her parents, D. C. and Mary Frances (Sammons) Sheppard.   Survivors include her loving husband, Arthur W. Davis of Covington; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Joyce and Gene Morgan of Monroe; son and daughter-in-law, Arthur Clinton and Jane C. Davis; grandchildren, Josh Davis, Cody Davis, Rodney Schoenfeld, Erica Reynolds, Elicia White; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Virginia and Roy Wilson of Covington, Edna Jean Baldwin of Loganville; brother and sister-in-law, Forrest Eugene and Sybil Sheppard of Newborn; several nieces and nephews.   Funeral services for Mrs. Davis will be held Tuesday, March 5, 2013, 2:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Don Malcom officiating, and interment following in the Davis Family Cemetery, in Newborn.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, March 4, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.  Flowers accepted, or donations may be made to Ebenezer Baptist Church, 3861 Ebenezer Church Road, Social Circle, Georgia, 30025.
