Shirley Ann Glass, of Oxford, passed away Monday, May 2, 2022, at the age of 88. Mrs. Glass lived in Stone Mountain from 1967 until 1986 before moving to Oxford, Georgia. She was a past active member of Stone Mountain First Baptist Church and a current member of Conyers First Baptist Church. Mrs. Glass was a 1954 graduate of Georgia Baptist School of Nursing where she earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing. A dedicated nurse, she started the first I.V. Team in Georgia. After a nursing career that spanned 41 years, she retired from American Red Cross as Director of Nursing in 1995. Mrs. Glass loved the Lord and was a devoted Christian. Her favorite bible verse was “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28. Mrs. Glass will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and very proud grandmother. She was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Hird; father, Thomas Thornton; sister, Tommy Claire Harris; and son-in-law, Richard A. Brown.
Survivors include her loving husband of 61 years, Charles William Glass, Jr.; daughter, Renee Brown; son, Mark Glass (Susan); grandchildren, Brandy Sherman, Jeremy Freeman, Elizabeth Glass, Mark Glass, Jr., David Glass, Hannah Glass; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service for Mrs. Glass will be held Thursday, May 5, 2022, 11:00 A.M. at Lawnwood Memorial Park, 1111 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Dave Nelson officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family Thursday, prior to her service from 9:45 – 10:45 A.M., at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington.
