Sister Joanne O'Brien

Sister Joanne O'Brien of Covington passed away November 5, 2011, at Rockdale Health Care Center at the age of 77. Sister Joanne is survived by Elizabeth Loescher, Jeff and Suzy Quinlan and family, all of Covington. She retired in Covington and expressed her deep commitment to peace and justice through her work with St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Augustine Catholic Church, League of Women Voters, and will be remembered for her service to the poor. Sister Joanne is a member of the Congregation of the Humility of Mary, and was a teacher, elementary school principal, and community organizer in Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, and Colorado.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 4:00 P.M., Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Covington, with Rev. Fr. Roberto A. Orellana and David Hyman, O.F.M., officiating. A visitation is scheduled, Monday, November 7, from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Caldwell and Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, Covington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Congregation of the Humility of Mary, 820 West Central Park Avenue, Davenport, IA 52804-1900. Services will be held later at the Humility of Mary Center in Davenport, IA, with burial following in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Davenport.
