Terrel Loyd, of Covington, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at the age of 86. Mr. Loyd was a member of Belmont Baptist Church where he served his community through the church. He was a hard worker, and an entrepreneur of Loyd’s Glass Company, Inc., and it’s currently in its third generation. He appeared as a glass man in an episode of “In the Heat of the Night.” Mr. Loyd was instrumental in starting the volunteer fire department in Oxford and was a volunteer firefighter for 30-plus years. He had a heart of gold and was always helping people and wanting to do something for others. Mr. Loyd was a jolly fellow who loved to make people laugh and if you met him, you never forgot him. In addition, he enjoyed farming, his family raised cattle and produced hay. Mr. Loyd was happiest when he was on his tractor. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Dewey and Emma Mask Loyd.
Survivors include his loving wife, Doris Loyd; son, Gene Loyd (Joanne); grandchildren, Phillip Loyd (Hannah), Dr. Jeremy Holmes (Bonnie), Rev. Rodney Holmes (Faye); great-grandchildren, Katie Lucas (Jordan), Josie Whittington (Chance), Daniel Holmes, Anthony Holmes, Jayden Holmes, Tristan Holmes, Carlee Holmes, Ellie Loyd; and great-great-grandchildren, Jed Lucas, Lillie Lucas.
A Funeral Service for Mr. Loyd will be held Friday, August 25, 2023, 11:00 A.M., at Belmont Baptist Church, 3275 Iris Drive, in Conyers, with Rev. Nolan Jackson and Rev. Rodney Holmes officiating and interment following in Mt. Zion Cemetery, 657 Mt. Zion Road, in Oxford. Friends are invited to visit with the family Thursday, August 24, from 5:00 – 8:00, at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington.
