Thurmon Delton Stapp, Sr., of Covington, Georgia, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at home with his family by his side. He worked as a plumber for Local 72 Atlanta Plumbers and Pipefitters for 59 years. He was a founding member of Newton Baptist Church. Mr. Stapp was a veteran with nine years of service to his country in the US Army National Guard. He loved his family and gospel music. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and in his earlier years raised beagles and birddogs. He took great pride in his rose garden.
Mr. Stapp was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, pawpaw, pop, uncle, brother, and friend to many. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Dora Stapp; his brother, George “Bud” Stapp; sisters, Evelyn Crew, Eva Casper, and Sara Jones.
Survivors are his wife of 67 years, Gloria Hammond Stapp; three children, Cheryl Dailey, Debra Bowen, Dale (Lori) Stapp; 10 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 27 great-great-grandchildren; along with his 4 sisters, Elizabeth Conner, Patricia Thomas, Elisia Slaton, Dorothy (Wayne) Brady; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service for Mr. Stapp will be held Saturday, October 8, 2022, 12:00 Noon, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Todd Sweat officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home two hours prior to his service from 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 Noon.
