Tommy Lee Millwood, Sr., of Covington, passed away at his home, Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at the age of 71. Tommy retired from the U.S. Postal Service, after several years of dedicated service. He was of the Baptist faith, and had attended Porterdale Baptist, High Point Baptist, Oxford Baptist, and Grace Baptist. He was well known for his band, Tommy Millwood and Lil' Bit Country; and was inducted into the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame in 2004. He was a self-taught musician, and played the guitar for more than 57 years. He was a loving and devoted father. Tommy coached recreation football and baseball for 20 years. He is loved, and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Lois (Moore) Millwood; and his sister, Anita Fuqua.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Ellen Millwood; children, Lee and Julie Millwood, all of Covington, Phil and Allison Millwood of Oxford, Timothy Grant Millwood, Shane and Jamie Millwood, Josh and Jennifer Millwood, Amanda and Bo Mullinax, all of Covington, Chris and Marti Woodruff of Snellville, Sean and Terri Woodruff of Flowery Branch; 20 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and John Jordan of Conyers; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Tommy will be held Thursday, June 23, 2011, 3:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, with Pastor David Payne officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Wednesday, June 22, from 6-9 PM.
