Vernon Franklin Sweat, Sr., of Oxford, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at the age of 77. Mr. Vernon loved his Lord and enjoyed going to church. He had a passion for softball and was one of the best coaches. He also umpired for many years. In addition, Mr. Vernon was a huge fan of the Bulldogs and the Braves. He never met a stranger and loved to tell stories about his younger years as a kid. Mr. Vernon will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Osborne Touchton and Evelyn Sarah Sweat; and brothers, Charles Sweat, Robert Sweat, Eddie Sweat, Winston Sweat.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Charline Sweat; daughters, Jeanene Catterton (Duane), Pamela Hall (Steven), Kristie Edwards (Steve), Alethea Sweat; son, Frankie Sweat (Michelle Jackam); 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Broxton, Shirley Richardson; brother, Billy Sweat; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service for Mr. Sweat will be held Sunday, January 7, 2024, 2:00 P.M., at the Tabernacle of Praise, 3024 Main Street, in Mansfield, with Pastor Steven Hall officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends are invited to visit with the family Saturday, January 6, from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M., at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington,
