William (Bill) Carter Johnson

December 24, 1941 — February 4, 2025

 William (Bill) Carter Johnson, age 83, died on February 4, 2025. Bill was born in Lexington, KY, to Catherine Barnes Johnson and William Carter Johnson on December 24, 1941. Eventually the family settled in Birmingham, Alabama where Bill graduated from Woodlawn High School. In the early 60’s he proudly served in the United States Navy for four years and was stationed on the aircraft carrier “Midway.” After his tour of duty, he entered the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, and received a BS degree in Education in 1968. While a student at Alabama, he completed his student teaching requirements in the American School in Barranquilla, Colombia associated with the University. Bill considered his teaching and travel experience in Colombia an especially meaningful part of his life. After graduation Bill came to Atlanta where he began his teaching career as an Industrial Arts teacher in Fulton County. Bill had many interests and hobbies. He took great pride in making fine furniture for his home including desks, bookcases, and lamps, sometimes incorporating in them carefully crafted inlaid designs. Photography and painting were also a big part of his creative pursuits. 

Bill was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his daughter, Lida Buckley (James); his two grandchildren, Maren, age 16, and Reid, age 14, of Franklin, Tennessee; and also by his brother Barnes Johnson of Birmingham. 

The family wishes to extend a very special thanks to Riverside Health Care Center and Sacred Journey Hospice in Covington, GA, for the excellent care he received there.
