William Howard “Billy” Veal, of Covington, passed away Sunday, September 20, 2020, at the age of 85. Billy was born June 30, 1935, in Wrightsville, GA. His childhood was spent on a farm where he developed a love, appreciation, and talent for agriculture. Billy moved to Atlanta after graduating from Wrightsville High School and began a career in land surveying. This led to a professional life in building and furthering his education. Billy started Veal Associates Surveying Company and surveyed numerous subdivisions in and around Atlanta. He was a member of Surveying and Mapping Society of Georgia. Billy’s love and talent for agriculture were evident in the amazing landscape designs wherever he lived. He purchased a farm in Wrightsville and became involved in the timber industry. Additionally, Billy was an elder in the Presbyterian church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, June Veal; son, Melvin Veal; as well as parents, Howard and Julia (Chester) Veal.
Billy’s legacy will live on in the lives of those he loved and cherished, especially his wife, Barbara Veal; son, Howard Veal; daughter-in-law, Patricia (Jeff) Hamilton; step-children, Rusty Richards, Rick (Candi) Richards, Melodi (Don) MacPherson; grandchildren, Matthew Veal, Bridgette Veal, Elizabeth (Jason) Hendrix, Joshua (Sarah) Veal; Jason (Emma) Veal, Ryan Richards, Jake (Holly) Richards, Caleb MacPherson, Andy (Emily) MacPherson; ten adored great-grandchildren; as well as siblings, Ann Harris, Chester Veal, Hueal Veal, Rowna Veal.
A Graveside Service to honor Billy will be held Friday, September 25, 2020, 3:00 P.M., at Lawnwood Memorial Park, 1111 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Bill McIlvain officiating. Friends are invited to visit with his family at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, one hour prior to the service, from 2:00 – 3:00 P.M. Flowers are accepted, or memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Georgia Chapter, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30346.
CDC guidelines recommend social distancing (6 feet apart) and wearing of masks while in public. Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home requests that you observe these recommendations while in our funeral home attending visitations and/or services. In addition, gatherings are limited to 50 persons or less in our facility at one time. Please honor these restrictions for the safety of the family, yourself, and our staff.
