Winfred Richard Boyd, lovingly known as “Whitey”, passed away suddenly on Monday, November 20, 2023 at the age of 75 at his home in Monticello, Georgia. Whitey was born on October 1, 1948 to Margaritte Elizabeth (Morris) Boyd and Donald Richard Boyd in Porterdale, Georgia.

Whitey grew up in Porterdale and attended Newton County High School where he played basketball. After graduation, Whitey joined the US Air Force and spent a majority of his service as Crew Chief with the 81st Technical Fighter Squadron. While stationed at the Hahn Air Base in Germany, he met his future wife, Gertrud Maria Esper (Trudy). They were married after his return to the US on July 29, 1972. On March 30, 1974, they were blessed with their son, Martin Richard Boyd.

Whitey retired from Evans Tool & Die after 40 years holding various positions. He also spent several years as an active member of the Peach State Sportsmen’s Club where he enjoyed hunting and spending time with great friends. After his retirement, he spent his free time hunting, fishing, and golfing as long as his health allowed. He was also a life-long fan of the Georgia Bulldogs through good times and bad.

Morris (Jenny) Mitchell, as well as his beloved dog, Rufus.

He is preceded in death by his infant son, Adam Winfred Boyd, his father, and his mother.

Whitey, Dad, Opa, no matter the name, he was very special. His warm personality brought light and happiness to those around him, and he always had something kind to say. He was loved by all who knew him, and he loved his family more than anything.
